Alongside working as a dance artist and choreographer, Sung Im Her really enjoys working as a movement director.
After working on Jazz Woodstock’s Paradise Now! at the Bush Theatre in London in 2022, Sung Im became fascinated by the potential of the movement directors role. She was able to participate in the theatre director’s world and add her own abstract movement. Working with actors allows for a new perspective, are their characters heavy, light, nervous or calm? This influences how they move and walk, which is a fundamental part of the character’s personality on stage during each play.
Sung Im Her’s work as movement director for Paradise Now! lead to her being named as one of ten "Stage sensations to watch out for in 2023" by The Guardian.
Part of the excitement of the position of movement director is that each play needs different movement and each director has a different way of working. Sung Im is always looking to connect with theatre world and beyond for collaborations.
